Sobremesa
A mother reading with her two young children at the kitchen table

Our story

Built at our kitchen table, for yours.

My name is Emily. I'm a mom of two young boys, a former Spanish teacher, and a forever learner.

When our kids began their Spanish immersion journey, I assumed using Spanish at home would come naturally. I speak the language. My husband doesn't. But even with my background, the gap between wanting to practice and actually doing it consistently was wider than I expected.

Life got full. Time got away from me. And if I'm honest, so did my discipline.

The heart behind Sobremesa started years earlier, when I volunteered as an ESL tutor and worked primarily with mothers learning English to better support their kids in school. I was deeply moved by their desire to connect, participate, and not be left out of their child's world.

That stayed with me.

Because language is more than academics. It is connection, confidence, belonging, and one more way to sit at the table together.

I built Sobremesa for families like ours: parents, grandparents, and caregivers who want to support their child's language learning but need something simple enough to actually use in the in-between moments.

The car ride to school. The wait at soccer practice. The few minutes right after dinner.

I made Sobremesa for our table first, but I'd love for other families to pull up a chair, too.
